Last summer is a whisper of warmth tingling my ear in slumber. I can already feel this one slipping away too. It’s ironic how these moments spent in the sun are now just hazy shadows in the back of my mind.
I’m sure we all catch ourselves brimming with nostalgic yearnings of last summer. So, I’m going to help you (and myself) in trying to document this gorgeous time.
Pictures, videos, the works: This one’s easy because everyone does it all the time. The most random things sometimes give us immense joy. Click as many pictures as you want, of the things that bring you joy. After all, it’s a reflection of your specific interests in that time frame.
Writing: It's okay if you haven't done it in the past. Just sit down and write one word about how you feel. Then, you'll find yourself pouring your feelings out (even if it's incomprehensible 20 years later). You can also write letters to your future self, including pictures and knick- knacks.
When you read a book, you don't necessarily remember all chapters, but they are still significant to your reading experience. Think of your summers as chapters. You probably have a favourite one, or one that made bawl your eyes out, or one where you laughed so hard something popped in your neck. I really do not need to stretch this analogy further.
Be more aware: As vague as this one sounds, I assure you it's not. All you need to do is try to stay in the moment more. For instance, you might be doing the most random thing like walking your dog. Try to observe things more closely; look at the colour of the grass, the shadows, the tinted sky. But focus on the trail and your pet too, we don't want dog- walking accidents.
What I want to say is:
Be more present. This way, you're ensuring a memory to look back to in the future.
Your time is significant, so be more aware of it. But not too much, philosophical crises are for the winter.
These were just some things I do, and I'm sure you can think of many more. Hopefully, this helped you in some way.
Now go drink some water, it's hot outside.
